1. No Godmodding. Please remember that you are not invincible. Being too powerful, dodging every hit in combat, etc. make things no fun for the other players. This rule should be self-explanatory.
2. No Bunnying. For those not familiar with the term, 'bunnying' is the act of controlling a character that is not yours without permission. Shared NPCs aside, all characters on this site belong to their respective owners only. You have no idea what that person has in mind for their characters, and even something you perceive as simple may go against that vision. Don't do it. Now, an exception will be made if you have been given permission by the other player.
2a. Death: Related to this is the act of killing and/or seriously maiming/disabling another player's character without their permission. Again, don't do it without asking first.
3. You must register before you can post. An admin will look over your character sheet. If your sheet isn't approved, you may not post in the Roleplaying section. An admin will try to get to you as soon as they possibly can. If there are issues with your bio, you will be given a period of time to fix them.
4. If it's not on your sheet, you don't have it. All powers, abilities, etc. that your character uses in a thread must be justifiable by the information on your character sheet unless you get specific permission from an administrator. If there is information you would like to keep secret from another player, please PM an Admin about it.
5. Please keep in-character and out-of-character drama separate. I understand that drama happens both in and out of character. However, please do not send your characters on a revenge vendetta against someone else's simply because of an out-of-character feud; in addition, Aftergate is simply a game. A conflict your character comes out badly in should not affect your real-world friendships. Now, I obviously cannot police what you do or how you feel, but if you do have off-site drama, please keep it there.
5a. Abuse exception: If another player of Aftergate is harassing you, please do not hesitate to inform the Aftergate staff members, whether that harassment is on- or off-site. This is not drama and you will not be punished for it. See below for more.
6. Harassment of other members will not be tolerated. If you are stalking, attacking, defaming, or otherwise harassing another member, we have the right to initiate disciplinary action. This is taken very seriously.
7. Abide by Proboards Terms of Service. We will enforce the ToS as rules here on the site, as you violating these terms can get us taken offline.. Specifically:
7a. No pornographic or explicit content. Seriously, guys, nobody needs your smut here, take it off-site. This includes links to dirty off-site fanfic or artwork.
7b. No defamatory content. We take hate speech seriously here at Aftergate. Specifically, racist, mysoginist, misandrist, homophobic, heterophobic, transphobic, ageist, ableist, and cisphobic remarks. As in: If you are being a dick to anyone because of their race/religion /gender/orientation/disability/lack of disability, you are violating this rule. You may be banned for this. We aren't SJWs, but we are a safe space.
7c. No criminal content. Keep your game cracks and stuff off-site, please. Also don't talk about real-life drug use or other criminal activities.
8. Fan characters are tolerated. This means that if you really want to, you can borrow characters from other media (games, books, etc.) under fair use and roleplay as them. However, they must be retrofitted to fit the site. We will scrutinize fan-characters very carefully, to make sure they fit this guideline. Using the images of characters from other works for your own, original characters is perfectly fine (please try to make sure that if you find the image via DeviantArt or something that you have the artist's permission to use it, though I know that this isn't always possible).
9. Remember the golden rule. The golden rule is: don't be an asshole. These rules may not cover everything, but make sure to conduct yourself like a reasonable human being. If someone asks you to stop, stop. If an action could reasonably hurt the player behind the character, don't do it. If you're not sure about if something's okay or not, ask the other player. The excuse "it's not against the rules" generally isn't going to impress anyone here.
10. Please have fun! It's not something I can strictly enforce, but it's something I recommend. And remember that if at any time you decide that Aftergate is not the right place for you, no one is going to hold it against you if you decide to take a break or even leave. We'd rather have you feeling happy and good about yourself than stay and be miserable.
